CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - AUGUST 21: Comedian and actor Kenan Thompson speaks about Project 2025 on stage during the third day of the Democratic National Convention at the United Center on August 21, 2024 in Chicago. (Photo by Andrew Harnik/Getty Images)
"Saturday Night Live" star Kenan Thompson deftly took on Project 2025 — the GOP playbook to overhaul the federal government under a second Trump term — as he brought on guests who would be directly impacted by the plan.
Thompson launched into the bit on day three of the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, carrying a "big, old book" which he jabbed was a "real document": Project 2025.
"You ever seen a document that can kill a small animal and democracy at the same time? Well, here it is," he said.
After a technical issue appeared to mute his first guest — and threatened to derail the skit — Thompson brought on guests including an OBGYN and an Education Department worker.
When his first guest shared that she was married to her wife for eight years, Thompson joked, "Oh that's amazing. Very very cute!"
"But I have got some bad news for you!" he said to laughs. "On page 584, Project 2025 calls for the elimination of protections for LGBTQ+ Americans."

As the crowd booed, Thompson retorted, "So yeah — right back to the Stone Age."
His next guest thanked President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for reducing the price of insulin to $35.
Not so fast, however.
"That is great," said Thompson. "But! On page 465 Project 2025 calls for millions of people like yourself to pay more for prescription drugs like insulin. Why? Well I guess to help big pharma make more money to donate to Republican politicians, I assume."

Fred Trump III dropped a profanity on MSNBC over the Labor Day holiday as he weighed in on former President Donald Trump's controversial appearance at Arlington National Cemetery — and used "The Godfather 2" to describe his uncle.
Speaking on her show Monday, host Nicolle Wallace told viewers that Trump continues to "shamefully employ" the same tactic in "every single one of his political campaigns."
"That is, dragging our nation's veterans and their families into the muck with him to be used as political props," she said.
Days after what Wallace called a "performative" trip to the cemetery, where a smiling Trump posed for photos with Gold Star families in a section where shooting or recording campaign materials is banned, the Trump campaign is claiming President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were the ones who ignored the invite. The White House has denied such an invitation was made.
"This is Mr. 'Suckers and losers' we're talking about here, his words, not ours, whose personal history is painted wall to wall, with not just moments but true beliefs that dishonor the military," jabbed Wallace.

Fred Trump, who recently came out with a Trump family tell-all book called "All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way," has written that his uncle used bone spurs to dodge the Vietnam War draft.
Wallace told him the Arlington story "guts me."
"I'm mad at myself for still being able to feel pain at things that Trump does," she said, noting she was "pained" about the cemetery incident.
Fred Trump recounted that his uncle had a draft deferment at Fordham University and two more after Fred's father helped get him into the Ivy League University of Pennsylvania.
He said his father came up with the bone spur "scheme" with a podiatrist, sending Donald Trump from "1A" — or front of the line — to "1Y."
When asked about Donald's reported "suckers and losers" comment, Fred Trump said his uncle believes anyone — including people with disabilities — that he deems "lesser than him" is a "loser."
"That's just the way he is. That ain't going to change," he said.
When asked why military members support Donald Trump, Fred said he had "no idea," but that he said on an interview with National Defense Radio that he told the truth: "I basically told this story and I said that 'he just doesn't give a s--- about them. He just doesn't."
Fred Trump compared his uncle's views on the military to the iconic "Godfather" franchise.
"It's the great "Godfather 2," one of the last scenes when Sonny says, 'Country ain't your blood, kid.' Michael Corleone says, 'No, I don't believe that.' Donald believes in Donald.'"

Dems move annual breakfast outside to support striking hotel workers: report

Democrats in Massachusetts moved their annual Labor Day breakfast outdoors for the first time in history — as opposed to its usual location inside a hotel — in a show of support with hundreds of striking workers, according to a report.
Darlene Lombos, president of the Greater Boston Labor Council, which has more than 100,000 workers and holds the breakfast each year, told WBUR in a statement Sunday that they changed their plans and are "doing things differently this year." The event was planned to be held at the Park Plaza Hotel, where workers were striking.

"We are going to bring attention to the changes that are needed in the hotel industry, and frankly, so many other industries, where workers continue to be paid far too little as executive compensation goes up and up," Lombos told the news outlet.
Outside the hotel, marching workers chanted and held signs saying "Make them pay!" and "One job should be enough."
The labor council said it would "not cross the picket line."

Experts say Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden's joint Labor Day appearance in Pittsburgh shows a recognition that Democrats need to do more in so-called "Blue Wall" states — and cemented a "passing of the torch."
Biden and Harris told rally-goers in the industrial city that U.S. Steel should remain in U.S.owned and operated as they opposed a deal that would merge the firm with Nippon Steel of Japan. The duo also made their case as to why labor unions ought to vote blue in November.
Speaking Monday on "The Situation Room" with fill-in host Alex Marquardt, Jasmine Wright of Notus called their speech a direct appeal to union voters and noted it was a base that Democrats need to win.
"I think it was a couple: I think it was an explicit recognition that this was the last stretch of the campaign, so therefore the Harris campaign really needs to step up their efforts in trying to get these voters to come home to them, come home to Vice President herself come November."
Wright added she believes it was also an "implicit recognition" that Democrats need to "do more" in Blue Wall states, noting Harris and Walz were in Michigan and Wisconsin as well earlier in the day.
"Really trying to shore up that Blue Wall for their path to 270," she said.

Ultimately, the joint appearance was, she said, "another chance to show the voters who are in President Biden's backyard and who have been in President Biden's backyard for 40 years that the vice president is somebody that they should lend their support to a real passing of the baton."
Wright pointed out that unlike their last appearance, Biden spoke before Harris at this speech.
"That was an important thing that I think we're going to continue to see going on as they try to make that passing of the baton really, really clear to the American voters," she said.
Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio agreed with Wright and said the speeches made it "clear" that Democrats aren't taking Blue Wall states for granted.
"I'm really happy to see that actually because we've seen overconfident campaigns in the past. We're going to need all the votes we can get in those states."
He added that Democrats are also focused heavily on winning back labor unions — a bloc he said they lost to Donald Trump — and that Biden is "exactly where he needs to be."
"In the Blue Wall states talking to labor," de Blasio said. 'I wouldn't necessarily say use him anywhere, everywhere, I think this is the perfect place and he is someone who can actually help her get some of those votes back."
